Helping others is what we both do best
The nonprofit and human services industry is one of caring and compassion. There are also unique complexities that can be challenging.
Nonprofit charities, social services agencies, museums, foundations, homeless shelters, and group healthcare homes face a diverse range of issues including financial pressure, regulatory requirements, technology, staffing, cyber risk, and more. Ensuring you have the right business insurance protection and coverage for your specialized needs makes all the difference when you want to dedicate your time and energy to improving people’s lives.

Philanthropy starts at home
We also have a long history of giving back to the communities where we live and work. Through the Risk Strategies Foundation, we share a commitment to employee-inspired volunteering and fundraising events. We often partner with the nonprofit organizations we insure.
Caring for our communities is never far from our minds. All employees receive volunteer paid time off to support their local community. We are inspired by our employees’ efforts to make the world a better place.
What are the benefits for a nonprofit organization to work with a nonprofit insurance specialist?
Some insurers will only consider certain nonprofit accounts that meet stringent criteria for coverage. Because carriers know we are nonprofit insurance specialists, they give accounts we submit more consideration than a generalist insurance agency. In addition, nonprofits have many other insurance issues ranging from Directors and Officers coverage, which protects board members from lawsuits, changing reimbursement models, and Employment Practice claims. As a specialist, we address issues through risk management, claims expertise, and education.
What are the unique coverages that nonprofits need?
One area that is different for nonprofits is professional liability for service providers such as occupational therapists, speech therapists, and nurses. Another key coverage is sexual abuse and molestation coverage. Nonprofit executives need to be aware that many carriers have “sub limits” on this coverage – meaning most insurance programs do not provide full coverage.
Why is Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance important for nonprofits?
Most insurance claims are not Director and Officers’ claims but Employment Practices Liability claims. Claim activity in this area drives costs. As directors become more involved with the agency, they become more concerned with adequate coverage, but few understand their exposure and responsibilities. Directors are concerned with how they may be sued and what recourse they have. We have provided seminars to Boards to answer these key concerns.
Are Employee Benefits important for nonprofits?
In such a competitive employment environment providing affordable and robust employee benefits are critical to attract and retain good employees. Our decades of nonprofit experience allow us to build programs to both meet your budget and provide attractive coverage for your staff.
